Introduction

The main purpose of CAC_SUD is for decision-makers,urban design practitioners and researchers to work together to produce knowledge on sustainable urban development and air quality management that is academically first rate, practically effective and relevant to society.


To ensure Asia’s rapid urbanization is based on principles of sustainability, we need more research on how our cities will work in the 21st century.

The University of South Australia is proud to partner with Tianjin University –ranked in China’s top one per cent and considered the country’s first modern university.

Tianjin University and the University of South Australia share this joint research centre. With a focus on sustainable design and development, CAC_SUD will combine leading Chinese and Australian perspectives in a world-class multidisciplinary research-intensive centre. The program will investigate the systemic design and engineering issues and the transformative potential ofcities in the Asia-Pacific region.

CAC_SUD collaborates on student and staff exchange, grant application submissions, PhD supervision and consultation to industry and government, focusing on energy efficiency, sustainable buildings, urban ecology, public space, air quality, urban heat stress and the impact of climate change.


Thisinternational centre for sustainable urban development leads research projects concerning better decision-making processes for sustainable urban development.
