Introduction

Research Center for Beijing Energy Development (RCBED) is the nation’s first philosophy and social science research institute at provincial level focusing on various energy issues. This Center was established jointly by Beijing Education Commission, Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Planning Office and North China Electric Power University in January, 2007. RCBED accommodates 6 sub-institutes/centers, and main research areas include: Chinese (especially Beijing’s) and foreign energy policy and legislation, energy economy and management, energy education and talent cultivation research, energy enterprises management and legal governance. At present, RCBED has 10 senior experts who have nation-wide reputation in energy area (including Yangtze River Scholar, New Century Excellent Talent of Ministry of Education, National Candidate of National Pacesetter Project, etc.) and more than 30 full/part-time researchers.


Since its establishment, RCBED has made significant achievements in academic research, social service as well as talent cultivation, and particularly some of research achievements filled the research blank. RCBED thus has been successively awarded Beijing Outstanding philosophy and social science research center. Regarding energy-related academic works, RCBED has published 36 academic books, 552 articles in domestic core journals and 192 in international journals. RCBED also received 22 scientific awards at national and provincial level. RCBED has undertaken 311 government-sponsored research projects (including 34 projects at national level, 77 projects at provincial level, and 11 international cooperation projects), and 231 enterprises-sponsored research projects. RCBED has submitted 50 research reports to the government, among which 33 received positive instructions and 27 was adopted by government departments. RCBED also organized international academic conference 6 times and national conference 4 times, and sent more than 20 researchers to overseas universities and invited some 15 foreign scholars for academic exchanges. RCBED provided energy courses to undergraduate and postgraduate students. So far 6 postdoctoral fellows, 62 doctors and 328 masters have been graduated. All of above shows RCBED has taken leading position in related research area and played an important leading role in society and enterprises services.
