The WIPO GREEN China City Acceleration Beijing Event (2023) OrganizedPost date: 2023-08-18



On August 17th, the WIPO GREEN City Acceleration Beijing Special Event was held at the Liangmahe Hotel. The event shared the progress of the WIPO GREEN City Acceleration Beijing Pilot, conducted specialized IP strategic training to enhance innovation and creativity, organized a group of enterprises for the Bluetech Carbon Neutrality Pioneers Award to showcase their technologies, and facilitated interactions and exchanges with demand-side enterprises. This event was guided by the Beijing Municipal Intellectual Property Office, and organized by BCAA with support from the Greentech Financing Platform and the Beijing Institute of Finance and Sustainability.



Lv Guoliang, former Deputy Director of the WIPO China Office and former Director-General of the International Cooperation Department of the National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), addressed: “After over a year of operation, the WIPO GREEN City Acceleration Beijing pilot has achieved multiple accomplishments, including the analysis of green technology demands in Beijing, organization of a series of matchmaking activities, and successful implementation of two demonstration projects. It is hoped that the event today will promote the establishment of more collaboration and demonstration projects in Beijing, accelerating the industrialization and commercialization process of cutting-edge green technologies.”

In 2023, the Beijing Pilot initiated a special initiative targeting at improving the green innovation capacities, and facilitating the green enterprise to access the capital resources from China’s stock markets. The first session of the event was an IP training session on this topic. The organizers of the event invited two experts, Xie Hongxing, Director of the BCAA and National Coordinator of WIPO GREEN China Cities Acceleration Project, and Zhao Lijie, Senior Partner at Beijing Yinghe Law Firm. The training lectures addressed topics such as enhancing science and technology attributes and intellectual property compliance in relation to the Science and Technology Innovation Board.

Lv Xuedu, Tencent's Senior Advisor for Carbon Neutrality and former Chief Climate Change Specialist at the Asian Development Bank, stated: “WIPO GREEN City Acceleration project has provided development assistance for many outstanding innovative green technologies. This event also offers intellectual property training for innovative green technologies, especially in terms of utilizing intellectual property to promote the entry of innovative technologies into the market and opportunities for the alignment of innovative technologies with markets and capital. We look forward to this platform accelerating the development of more green innovative technologies in the future and supporting China in achieving its carbon neutrality goals.”

The second session of this event was the matchmaking between technological providers and demand providers. Director Xie Hongxing, introduced that the event invited representatives from central government owned energy enterprises, including Sinopec, CNOOC, State Grid, Datang, China Resources, and State Power Investment Corporation; Industry representatives such as Beijing Energy Group, China Water Environment Group, Tencent, Meituan, JD.com, SVOLT Energy; and representatives from investment institutions such as National Green Development Fund, CICC Capital, Sinopec Climate, Sequoia, IDG, and Xiangfeng Capital were present. Zuo Lin, Partner at Vision FarSighted Capital, a Sequoia Carbon Neutrality Fund, remarked: “The WIPO GREEN City Acceleration project provides an opportunity to deeply understand excellent green technology projects. With the introduction of China's dual-carbon targets, green and low-carbon technology projects have received widespread attention from the government, industries, and investors. We have witnessed the rapid development of China's green and innovative technology field and greatly look forward to witnessing the development of these innovative technologies in the future, supporting the realization of the United Nations' global sustainable development goals.”

The event invited a total of 8 enterprises that were participants of the Bluetech Carbon Neutrality Pioneers Award to join in the showcase and networking. These companies are Beijing Proton Power Generation Technology Co., Ltd., JinjieLi Engineering Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Shitu Technology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Puli Material Technology Co., Ltd., Anhui Zhongnai New Material Co., Ltd., Bota (Shanghai) Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Huanneng Core Power Technology Co., Ltd., and Haofengguang Energy Storage Technology (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. Zhao Lijian, Head of the Greentech Financing Platform and President of Carbon Trust China, stated: “The Green Technology Financial Support Platform, in collaboration with the BCAA, jointly initiated the Bluetech Carbon Neutrality Pioneers Award. Nearly a hundred carbon neutrality projects apply each year, resulting in the assessment of a batch of outstanding technological projects. This award effectively supports the WIPO GREEN City Acceleration Project. Last year, both technological providers for the two demonstration projects implemented in the Beijing pilot were enterprises participating in the Bluetech Carbon Neutrality Pioneers Award.”

In this event, representatives from technology companies also expressed their thoughts. Lv Dawei, General Manager of Proton Power, said, “We appreciate the opportunity provided by the organizers to present our latest developments in the SOEC hydrogen energy field. The high energy efficiency, low electricity consumption per unit of hydrogen produced, and the absence of precious metals usage are characteristics that give SOEC technology significant development potential. We genuinely hope that this technological path will receive more attention in the future.”

Bota Bio's Chief Technology Officer, Hao Shengli, introduced, “We pioneered microbiological technology for managing hazardous waste residues, hazardous wastewater, and hazardous air pollutants (VOCs), aiming for energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and green environmental protection. Currently, our focus lies within the automobile manufacturing sector. In this event, we have connected with numerous potential clients and partners. In the future, we hope to leverage the platform of the WIPO GREEN China City Acceleration Project to create greater economic and societal values.”

Yang Jinshi, Chief Marketing Officer of Puli Materials, stated, “We greatly appreciate the invitation from BCAA. Puli is dedicated to the high-value utilization of carbon dioxide. Using carbon dioxide as a raw material, we employ unique synthesis methods and production processes to create new materials. Our aim is to promote the industrialization of carbon-negative materials, contributing to China's carbon neutrality objectives and global environmental carbon reduction efforts. In the future, we also hope to have the opportunity to participate in the demonstration efforts of the WIPO GREEN City Acceleration Project.”

Sun Rongtao, Managing Director of Sinopec Capital, stated, “The green technology projects showcased in this event all belong to cutting-edge technological fields in the realm of carbon neutrality, covering hydrogen energy, CCUS, green material, energy storage, and green biotech. During the exhibition session, these green technology projects effectively demonstrated their technological features and advantages. I believe these technologies have promising future applications, and I am also looking forward to the emergence of unicorn companies in the field of China's dual-carbon technology among the participating enterprises in this event.”

Before entering China, the WIPO GREEN Urban Acceleration project had already been implemented in several countries, achieving a range of successful matches in areas such as water pollution prevention and control, green agriculture, and climate adaptation. Feng Wujun, Secretary-General of the Beijing Carbon Neutrality Society, said, “Beijing is the first city in China where the WIPO GREEN China City Acceleration Project has been introduced. This event showcases numerous excellent green technologies, and it is hoped that these technologies will quickly find demand in Beijing, enabling rapid transformation and implementation, and fostering demonstration projects to support Beijing's green and low-carbon development.”
