On November 20, the Bluetech Carbon Neutral Energy Storage Technology Application Accelerator Camp (2024), hosted by Bluetech Clean Air Alliance and supported by HSBC Philanthropy Foundation , was successfully held in Beijing. Representatives from 15 innovative energy storage technology companies gathered for the camp's opening ceremony, participated in intensive training on energy storage technologies, and engaged in high-level industry dialogues. Eight of these companies conducted key presentations and exchanged ideas with industry demand sides and investment institutions on-site. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding for energy storage technology cooperation was signed during the event. Over 30 representatives from energy storage technology demand sides, more than 40 representatives focused on energy storage technology investments, as well as industry experts, representatives from research institutions, media representatives, and other guests, totaling nearly 130 people, attended the event. This event was also one of the acceleration activities piloted in Beijing as part of the United Nations WIPO GREEN City Acceleration Project.
Guest Speeches
Lu Guoliang, former Deputy Director of the WIPO China Office and former Director of the International Department of the National Intellectual Property Administration, pointed out in his opening speech that in 2013, WIPO established the WIPO GREEN cooperation platform to promote green technology innovation and dissemination by building a bridge between global green technology providers and demand sides, in order to address climate change and support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In 2020, Tonny Xie, Director of Bluetech Clean Air Alliance, was invited to become a core member of the WIPO GREEN Global Committee. The committee comprises nine members, with Tonny being the only one from China. He has made unremitting efforts to promote China's participation in WIPO-related affairs. One of his major achievements was introducing the WIPO GREEN Global Acceleration Project to China, with Beijing being the first pilot city to launch it in November 2021. After three years of operation, the Beijing pilot has achieved multiple results. Today's event is also one of the acceleration activities conducted under the Beijing pilot. It is believed that the Beijing acceleration pilot will continue to deepen and yield more results and impacts in the future.
Wang Ying, Director of Sustainable Development at HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited and Chairman of the Beijing HSBC Public Welfare Foundation, stated in her speech that addressing climate change is the top priority for achieving sustainable development. In 2020, HSBC established the "HSBC Climate Solutions Partnership" global flagship public welfare program to broadly fund innovative climate solutions. Over the past five years, HSBC has donated more than RMB 100 million in China to support 10 public welfare projects related to climate change, including the "Financial Support for Accelerating the Development of the Energy Storage Industry and Addressing Climate Change" project in collaboration with Bluetech Clean Air Alliance. In recent years, China's energy storage industry has been booming, but it still faces many challenges, such as the difficulty in promoting new energy storage technologies, limited resources for industrial matchmaking, and insufficient investment and financing. With the rapid development of the energy storage industry, more attention is being paid to the emission management of energy storage companies themselves. The energy storage industry project jointly undertaken by HSBC and Bluetech Clean Air Alliance addresses these challenges. They hope that by organizing energy storage technology application activities, they can serve and support key stakeholders such as energy storage technology companies, supply chain companies, financial institutions, and energy storage application companies, facilitate exchanges, achieve the development and capability enhancement of connected companies, facilitate matchmaking between user companies, foster cooperation intentions, and provide acceleration services for energy storage companies.

IP Empowerment – Building New Quality Productive Forces in the Energy Storage Industry
The accelerator camp also included an IP strategy training session for participating companies, industry partners, and investors. As a strategic national resource and core element of competitiveness, intellectual property is a catalyst for cultivating new quality productive forces. Tonny Xie, Director of Bluetech Clean Air Alliance and National Coordinator of the United Nations WIPO GREEN City Acceleration Project, delivered a lecture titled "IP Empowerment – Building New Quality Productive Forces in the Energy Storage Industry". Tonny emphasized that China has become the most active innovator in green technology fields such as energy storage and hydrogen energy. In 2023, the Chinese Patent Office examined nearly 35,000 energy storage patents, surpassing the combined total of the United States, European Union, Japan, and South Korea. China is facing a transition from being a technology follower to an innovation leader. The key path to breaking away from inward-looking development, leveraging intellectual property, building a competitive core, and establishing differentiated brand advantages to achieve industrial dominance, pricing power, and enable companies to resist risks and sustainably earn excess profits is an important topic for the future development of Chinese energy storage technology companies.
