On the evening of December 11, 2024, at 20:00 Beijing Time (GMT 12:00), The Earthshot Prize, initiated by Prince William of the United Kingdom, completed the nomination collection for its new round of selections. As an official nominator for the award, Bluetech Clean Air Alliance (BCAA) selected relevant green innovation projects from hundreds of entries participating in the BCAA Carbon Neutrality Pioneer Award and recommended by partners, completing the nominations for 2025.
The Earthshot Prize, founded by Prince William and the Royal Foundation in October 2020, officially launched a global call for green solutions in 2021. This prestigious environmental award is known as the "Oscar of the environmental sector." Its establishment aims to inspire humanity to take action and make changes, working together to repair the Earth's ecology over the next decade.
The award solicits solutions from around the world and selects winners annually. It focuses on five "Earthshot Goals": Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate.
Each year, the selection process identifies 15 finalists from all nominated projects globally, ultimately choosing 5 winners, each receiving a prize of £1 million. All finalists will also benefit from Prince William's influence and international cooperation network, gaining access to extensive resources and platforms to further promote the application and globalization of their green solutions.
The award operates a nominator mechanism, inviting nominating partners from around the world to submit candidates, including individuals, communities, businesses, and organizations that may win The Earthshot Prize. Nominators are selected from a global network, including academic and nonprofit institutions worldwide, which have the ability to identify the most impactful solutions to the "Earthshot Goals." BCAA was invited to serve as an official nominator when the award first solicited global solutions in 2021.
Since the inaugural award ceremony in 2021, the ceremony has been held in different cities around the world annually. Of the 20 winning projects over the four years since the award's global launch in 2021, the only Chinese project, GRST, was nominated by BCAA in 2023.
Director Xie Hongxing （Tonny Xie）of BCAA was invited to participate in the green carpet segment of the award ceremony held in Singapore in 2023 and posed for a photo at the official nominator's section. On the eve of the ceremony, Director Xie Hongxing was with representatives of GRST as the nominator of the project.
