The 2nd China Greentech IP Management Clinic kicks off: Empowering the International Development of Intellectual Property in the Green IndustryPost date: 2025-11-27

On November 25, 2025, the opening ceremony of the 2nd China Greentech IP Management Clinic (IPMC), hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), supported by the Beijing Intellectual Property Office (BJIPO), and organized by the Bluetech Clean Air Alliance (BCAA), was successfully held in Beijing. Centered around the theme of "International Intellectual Property (IP) Strategy Driving High-Quality Development in the Green Industry", the event brought together experts in the field of IP, representatives from green technology enterprises, and industry elites. Through activities such as the opening ceremony, specialized training, and on-site learning at BOE, the event provided a platform for green technology enterprises to enhance IP exchange, cooperation, and capacity building.

Gathering together to Devise the Blueprint for the Development of  the IP Strategies for Chinese Greentech Companies

Liquan Zhou, Deputy Director of BJIPO, stated in his opening speech that IP, as a crucial system for simulating innovation, protecting outcomes, and promoting commercialization, is closely linked to the development, application, and dissemination of green technologies. As the first city in China to pursue development by reducing nonessential functions, Beijing consistently regards green innovation as a primary driver of high-quality development.

The WIPO GREEN Beijing City Acceleration Project serves as a key platform connecting global providers and seekers of green technologies. It is significant for accelerating the promotion and application of these technologies in Beijing and a wider range. The launch of this "China Greentech IPMC" represents a vital step in the project's deepened implementation and its mission to empower enterprises. It will help our green businesses systematically enhance their IP strategic management capabilities, better utilize IP tools to protect innovations, mitigate potential risks, and improve market competitiveness.

He expressed his hope that all participants would cherish this opportunity, strengthen their consciousness and initiative in leveraging IP to drive corporate green development, and tangibly improve their capabilities in IP strategy planning, portfolio management, and risk prevention. He also encouraged them to engage in in-depth exchanges and explore collaboration opportunities with peers and experts from various fields to achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.

Yuhua Deng, Counsellor to the WIPO China Office, highlighted that WIPO GREEN, as a multilateral cooperation platform, has aggregated over 140,000 green technology entries and facilitated more than 1,000 successful technology transfers. It has been recognized by the United Nations (UN) as a "game-changing digital solution for addressing climate change". In 2021, Beijing became the first global pilot city for WIPO GREEN, and in 2024, the city further introduced the first IPMC dedicated to green technologies, organized by WIPO, to help Small and medium-sized enterprises systematically build their IP strategies and enhance core competitiveness.

Today, the second session of the IPMC officially launch. We look forward to seeing the new cohort of participants fully leverage this high-end platform to undergo a transformation from "technology managers" to "strategic architects" through systematic training, field studies, and expert mentoring, thereby laying a solid IP foundation for the global expansion of their enterprises.

Silvija Trpkovska, Counsellor, WIPO IP for Business, emphasized that China has rapidly emerged as a global leader in green innovation, leading the world in energy transition investments and hosting a vibrant ecosystem of enterprises. Today, more than one-third of the world's renewable energy patents originate from China, serving as a remarkable testament to the nation's innovation capacity and its unwavering commitment to a greener future. At WIPO, we are proud to contribute this project effort to the IPMC Program which provides targeted and practical support to China's Greentech enterprises, helping them to better protect, manage and commercialize their IP.

Tonny Xie, Director of the Bluetech Clean Air Alliance and National Coordinator for the UN WIPO GREEN City Acceleration Project, provided an overview of the IPMC. He noted that WIPO is the most authoritative UN agency in the field of IP. The China Greentech IPMC, hosted by WIPO and organized by the BCAA, demonstrates international characteristics and standards in its module design, mentor lineup, and output criteria. The participating enterprises are all leading technologies companies and unicorn enterprises in various sub-sectors of China's carbon neutrality field, with founders of many companies present today. We believe that many of these participants will become innovation engines driving the green transition both in China and the world.

At the ceremony, the mentor team of the IPMC made a collective appearance. The IPMC's mentor lineup comprises four international and eight Chinese mentors, all of whom are renowned lawyers and experts in their fields.
