The Third Conference of the CAAC Steering Committee held with successPost date: 2015-01-13

On January 6th 2015, the third Conference of the CAAC Steering Committee was held successfully in Tsinghua University, under the host of the Steering Committee President Prof. Hao Jiming. Nearly 20 committee members (deputations), guests and personnel of the CAAC Secretariat participated in the conference. The work of CAAC in 2014 was reviewed, and discussions were developed around the future work that could be carried out to better contribute to the air quality improvement in China.

Since the establishment date of January 23, 2013, the past two years evidenced CAAC’s rapid development with significant contributions from CAAC experts, partners, as well as the Energy Foundation. In 2014, CAAC has made important progress in terms of management mechanisms, platform development, reports compiling, training, and tools development. A new steering committee member joined: Mr. Wang Jinnan from Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning. And a new advisory committee member joined: Dr. Markus Amann. Five institutions joined in 2014 CAAC as registered organizations as well. CAAC published the following reports among others: Budget and Human Resource for Air Quality Management, Curbing China’s Air Pollution from Urban Transport, Law on Air Pollution Control and Prevention (Revised Draft), Air Quality Management Assessment Report of Jiangsu Province, etc.. CAAC also organized various events in the year of 2014, for instance, the workshop on “Restoring Blue Skies: Accelerating Air Pollution Control”, and two ABaCAS training sessions.

Entering 2015, CAAC will continue to work in following four domains: policy research and education, local implementation and capacity building, clean air technology and green investment, and communication & dissemination. On one hand, the committee members unanimously appreciated the working progress CAAC made. On the other, they also put forward higher expectations and requirements to the future development of CAAC.

At the end of the conference, Mr. Hao Jiming reaffirmed the positive outputs and outcomes CAAC accomplished in 2014, and made a summary of the suggestions contributed by the committee members. These suggestions concentrated on the following: strengthen the authority and influence of the CAAC; make mid-long term plans, promote communication and partnership establishment.
