Introduction:Continuously developing ships and ports promote economic progress in China. However, ships and ports also emit air pollution, and regulations to control these emission sources are still insufficient. However, some local governments are beginning to address this issue and this White Paper aims to provide support by gathering relevant background information from regulators and stakeholders. The Paper includes environmental and health impacts of these emissions, as well as details of relevant prominent American and European case studies to manage these emissions. The information will assist authorities’ policymaking efforts in this field with general guidelines that shall be catered to the individual characteristics of each main port in China. Domestic key ports should conduct custom, detailed analyses to choose economically efficient and plausible measures.
