Beijing aims to decrease PM2.5 by 15 percent and reduce the number of polluted days by 2020. A higher standard for vehicle emissions will take effect in 2017. In addition, 30 billion RMB will be invested to improve air quality in the southern part of Beijing in the coming 3 years. Geomorphology and industrial development (including straw burning, construction dust, and industrial dust), make the air quality in the southern part of Beijing worse than northern part.
