Suzhou will try to cut its average PM2.5 density by 20 percent in 2016 from the 2013 level by carrying out 441 emission-control projects and upgrading 1,802 coal-fired boilers.
The city completed 323 emission-control projects and upgraded 1,730 coal boilers last year. Officials will evaluate each project and judge the result of its emission-control efforts.
Adding further to strict actions, this year, 8,432 coal boilers in Jiangsu province will be upgraded and 164,617 yellow-label vehicles cars will be taken off the road for failing emission standards.
As its new measures to control air pollution, the city will issue a ban on fireworks this year with specific rules on time, place and types of fireworks. Three inland ports will limit emissions of container ships and their diesel-powered gantry cranes will be modified to use electricity.
Suzhou will adopt a punishment system this year to charge construction companies for dust pollution. It will also work out a method to regulate outdoor barbecue stalls.
The environmental authorities will carry out 246 projects this year to reduce the pollution of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), upgrade waste treatment facilities, improve production methods, and shut down factories which failed to meet the emission standards.
