Taiyuan became the 1st city globally having all cabs powered by electricityPost date: 2016-11-10

With over 8000 electrical cabs operated on the road, all cabs in Taiyuan City have been transformed from fuel vehicles to electric ones, marking Taiyuan pioneers the world in having all its cabs electric-powered.

Electrification of vehicles accelerate infrastructure construction of charging poles. So far, in Taiyuan, over 2,000 charging poles have been finished constructing and the number will rise to over 5500, almost tripled the present number, at the end of this year according to the plan. Cabs were chosen due to its long performance shifts and its wide use. Operators only need to pay around 90,000 yuan (30% of its market price) for an electrical car with subsidy by the government on national, provincial and municipal levels, rendering electrical taxi easy to be popularized.

CAAC initiated a pilot project in Taiyuan in 2015 to carry out air quality management assessment. In 2016, CAAC collaborated with Shanxi Environmental Department to analyze and summarize Taiyuan’s experience in promotion of electrical vehicles with the support of energy foundation.
