Emissions from vehicles are the major cause of pollution in Beijing, accounting for 31.1% of local pollution while coal burned for heat accounts for 22.4%. Polluting transportation from surrounding regions contributes 28–36% of PM2.5 pollution. Beijing will take measures to control individual stoves burning coal in rural areas and high-emission vehicles. New measures will be developed to control non-local cargo passing through Beijing.
