In 2001 China started to implement the vehicle emissions standard, China I. After 15 years of development, China IV has been applied around the country and the China V standard has been implemented in key regions. The standards have effectively reduced 90 percent of emissions and promoted technical upgrades in the vehicle industry. The new standard, China VI, has two emission limits levels, which will take effect in 2020 and 2030.
