The Third Round Central Government Environmental Inspection Completes the Second Stage InspectionPost date: 2017-05-23

The seven central government environmental inspection teams stationed in Tianjin, Shanxi, Liaoning, Anhui, Fujian, Hunan, and Guizhou respectively sometime between Apr. 24 and Apr. 28, 2017 for the third round inspection, upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. By May 18, all of the seven inspection teams had completed the second stage inspections. The inspectors had one-on-one talks with 310 leading officials, including 166 ones at the provincial level and 144 ones with the provincial governments or prefectural cities. They had paid a visit to a total of 132 provincial departments and organizations, reviewed more than 52,000 copies of documents, inspected 66 prefectural cities (districts, counties), and made or collected 743 records or evidences.

By May 18, the seven inspection teams had received a total of 29,429 cases of environmental complaints, accepted 22,955 ones deemed valid, straightened them out and eliminated the repeated ones, and finally transferred 19,182 cases to the inspected areas for further processing. In this process, the target areas investigated and handled 11,245 of the transferred cases, levied fines on 4,388 enterprises with a combined penalty of 196.3473 mil. yuan; investigated 231 cases, and held 273 individuals in custody; summoned 4,494 persons for talks and held 2,976 of them accountable. The synchronization of inspections with rectifications helped solved a group of environmental problems concerning the local people’s living environment, and the local residents either called or wrote to the inspection teams to express their thanks.

The inspection teams are currently carrying out the third stage inspections following the inspection plans and will continue to accept the people’s environmental complaints by letter or by visit.
