China adopts ‘Green Development Index’ for the first timePost date: 2017-12-27

The National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and two other administrations have conducted an annual assessment of ecological civilization in 31 provinces, and released a “Green Development Index” for the first time, Yicai.com reported.

The top five regions with the highest scores of the index are Beijing, Fujian, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Chongqing.

The Index reviews 55 aspects in six categories of local green development, including resource utilization, environmental governance, environmental quality, ecological protection, GDP quality and green living.

Ning Jizhe, head of the National Statistic Bureau, said the country must abandon the concept of prioritizing GDP growth and improve the assessment and evaluation system for economic and social development.
