北京大学生育健康研究所所长、卫生部生育健康重点实验室主任、医学博士、研究员、博士生导师。主要研究方向为出生缺陷和先天残疾的预防和控制。曾承担国家科技攻关计划课题和国家自然科学基金课题,并为两项“国家重点基础研究发展规划(973)”课题学术骨干。现为国家自然科学基金课题负责人、美国NIH课题共同负责人。对我国某些地区神经管缺陷高发的原因进行了系统调查和研究,提出了燃煤导致的空气污染可能与胎儿神经管缺陷发病有关的假设并进行了初步验证。独立或合作发表科研论文120余篇,其中SCI论文40余篇。中国妇幼保健协会理事、环保部“全国重点地区环境与健康专项调查”项目组专家、山西医科大学多环芳烃与人群健康研究中心学科委员会委员、《中国生育健康杂志》主编、4种国际学术期刊常务编委或编委、10余种国际期刊审稿人。
