王书肖在大气污染来源与控制方面开展了创新性研究。主要学术成就在于:(1)系统表征了典型燃烧源的VOC化学成分谱、颗粒物粒径分布和化学成分谱,建立基于工艺信息的排放因子库;研发针对我国复杂源构成的多尺度嵌套、高时空分辨率排放清单技术,主要污染物排放信息的空间分辨率精确到1公里、时间分辨率精确到1小时。(2)开发多污染物多源分类减排-环境效应的非线性复杂系统模拟技术,首次准确识别我国东部地区臭氧和细粒子与SO2、NOx、VOC和NH3排放的定量关系,提出我国区域大气复合污染演变特征的定量依据;构建基于环境效应的区域大气复合污染协同控制技术体系,快速确定实现多种空气质量目标的各种污染物减排量。研究成果为北京奥运会、上海世博会的空气质量保障及区域大气污染联防联控提供了关键技术支持。(3)测定燃煤和有色金属冶炼过程中汞的分布和排放因子,提出烟气中汞的化学形态转化机制,首次量化我国现有大气污染控制设施的协同脱汞效果,提出以脱硫除尘协同控制为主和添加氧化剂强化脱汞为辅的大气汞污染控制技术途径,用于电力行业大气汞减排示范,并为全球汞公约谈判提供了重要科技支撑。(4)建立脱硫脱硝技术评价指标体系与多层次模糊综合评价模型,提出我国SO2和NOx排放控制的核心技术途径与技术政策,为国家大气污染物总量控制政策的制订提供了科技支撑。

获国家科技进步二等奖2项、教育部自然科学一等奖1项以及国家环境保护科技奖1项,入选“新世纪优秀人才支持计划”,被评为“优秀环境科技工作者”,受到中国工程院和环保部的表彰。主编教材1部,参编专著5部;发表论文100多篇,其中SCI收录50多篇。
